Senior citizen is faster than the perpetrator
73-year-old pursues thief and gets help from passers-by
Turin - A brazen theft near the famous Gran Madre church took an unexpected turn for the perpetrator. A 73-year-old woman defended herself against two young men who snatched her gold chain from her neck in broad daylight.
The incident occurred a few days ago at around 9 a.m. in Via Monferrato. Two young men approached the senior citizen. One of them, whose accomplice was waiting on an e-scooter, snatched a gold chain worth around 1000 euros from her. But the woman reacted with lightning speed and courage. Instead of falling into shock, she took up the pursuit of the perpetrator with astonishing agility.
Their loud shouts alerted passers-by to the situation. They intervened courageously and were able to detain one of the two men until a Carabinieri patrol arrived. The officers from the Barriera Casale police station arrested the 24-year-old man. He is a foreign national with no permanent residence in Italy.
The senior citizen immediately received her necklace back and filed a complaint. In accelerated proceedings, a judge decided that the young man must report to the criminal investigation department every day from now on. Investigations are underway to identify his fugitive accomplice. The arrested suspect is presumed innocent until the conclusion of the proceedings.
