wind.<\/p>\n<p>Torbole is a district of the municipality of Nago-Torbole on the northern shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Trento. The town thrives on the wind: In the morning, the <span class=\"notranslate\">Vent<\/span>, the north wind, starting at noon the <span class=\"notranslate\">Ora<\/span>, the south wind. The reason is its location between the slopes of the <span class=\"notranslate\">Monte Baldo<\/span>, the long mountain ridge on the eastern shore, and the <span class=\"notranslate\">Monte Brione<\/span>, the hill between Torbole and Riva. The wind from the valley of <span class=\"notranslate\">Loppio<\/span>, the valley between the Adige Valley and the lake, is channeled and reinforced along its length.<\/p>\n<p>When the weather is nice, the Vent blows from the northeast in the morning and dies down shortly before noon. Then the Ora sets in\u2014the southerly wind that blows regularly from spring through late fall. You can tell it\u2019s coming by a dark blue streak on the lake\u2019s horizon. For sailors, it\u2019s the favorite wind on the upper part of the lake.<\/p>\n<p>Two clubs define the region: the <span class=\"notranslate\">Torbole Sailing Club<\/span>, the sailing club on the Conca d\u2019Oro lakeside promenade, and the <span class=\"notranslate\">Circolo Surf Torbole<\/span> on Via della Lova. The Sentiero Busatte-Tempesta Trail with its metal stairs<\/h3>\n<p>The most famous hiking trail in Torbole begins at the <span class=\"notranslate\">Busatte Park<\/span>, a car-free park on the hillside above the town, and runs about four kilometers along the steep riverbank to <span class=\"notranslate\">Tempesta<\/span>, a hamlet on the coastal road toward Malcesine. For the route, expect <span class=\"notranslate\">Garda Dolomites<\/span>, the tourism association on the northern shore of Lake Trentino, about 90 minutes. Along the way, you'll climb metal stairs totaling about 400 steps and tackle two ascents, the <span class=\"notranslate\">Corno di B\u00f2<\/span> and the <span class=\"notranslate\">Salt de la Cavra<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>As a loop trail returning via the forest road, the route is 7.9 kilometers long, takes 2 hours and 40 minutes, and involves 305 meters of elevation gain and 305 meters of elevation loss; the highest point is at 364 meters. The tourism association classifies the trail as easy and family-friendly; it will be open in October 2026. During the Austro-Hungarian era, the border with Italy ran through Tempesta.<\/p>\n<p>Good to know: The stairs are a workout for your legs, and if you walk back the same way, you'll have to climb them again. The Marmitte dei Giganti between Torbole and Nago<\/h3>\n<p>In a scenic location near State Road 240, which runs from Torbole through Nago up to Rovereto, lie the <span class=\"notranslate\">Marmitte dei Giganti<\/span>, the \u201eCauldrons of the Giants\u201c: round shafts carved into the rock, four to five meters wide and ten to twelve meters deep, with smooth, polished interiors. For a long time, they were considered a mystery, and explanations revolved around giants.<\/p>\n<p>They were formed during the Ice Age. Meltwater rushed through crevasses in the glacier, swirled stones in a circle, and carved the rock into bowls. Such glacial potholes are rarely as well-preserved as they are here. The rocks surrounding the marmite are also part of the town\u2019s climbing areas, whose routes range in difficulty from grade 4 to the upper 8.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"row vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"jeg-vc-wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_column jeg_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"jeg_wrapper wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"inw-h\">5. Nago, with Castel Penede and the Forte di Nago<\/h3>\n<p>Nago is situated on a rocky ledge above Torbole, and the walls of Castel Penede stand on the rocky outcrop next to it. For five centuries, the castle served as an important stronghold in the region; it was first mentioned on September 11, 1210, in a peace treaty between the Prince-Bishop of Trento and the Counts of Arco. It changed hands frequently, and in 1509 it came under Tyrolean control. In 1703, Vend\u00f4me\u2019s troops reduced it to ruins.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2019, the University of Trento and the Provincial Office of Cultural Heritage have been conducting excavations at the <span class=\"notranslate\">Doss Penede<\/span>, the castle hill. They found traces from three eras: from the Late Bronze Age, beginning in the mid-14th century B.C.; from the Iron Age of the Raeti, the Alpine people of the region; and a Roman settlement dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 4th century A.D., covering more than three hectares. The site will remain closed while excavations are underway. Most recently, on July 21, 2025, the municipality hosted an \u201copen excavation\u201d evening\u2014keep an eye out for similar events.<\/p>\n<p>Right next to it is the <span class=\"notranslate\">Forte di Nago<\/span>, an Austrian fortress built between 1860 and 1861, following the Battle of Solferino in 1859, after which Austria lost Lombardy. Starting Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the fort will house the municipal library as a new cultural center. At its mouth, the <span class=\"notranslate\">Foce della Sarca<\/span>, migratory birds rest here, and the municipality asks that people respect the riverbank area. Upstream, the bike path leads through the <span class=\"notranslate\">Sarca River Park<\/span>, the largest network of protected areas in Trentino, according to <span class=\"notranslate\">Arco<\/span>, the small town with its castle rock and climbing walls about six kilometers to the north, and on to <span class=\"notranslate\">Sarche<\/span>, a town in the upper Sarca Valley.<\/p>\n<p>On the shore grows the <span class=\"notranslate\">Ciclovia del Garda<\/span>, the planned bike path around the lake. On June 30, 2026, two new sections between Torbole and Riva del Garda were opened, totaling about 2.5 kilometers, along with a new bike and pedestrian path through the center of Torbole. There are no scheduled ferry services in the winter.<\/strong> The line will be suspended from November 2, 2026, through March 12, 2027.
