Anas expects a significant increase in traffic on the second weekend in July. Many travelers from larger cities will be on their way to the coasts, mountain regions or national borders. Especially on Friday afternoon and evening and on Sunday afternoon and evening, heavy traffic and long travel times are to be expected. As the previous weekend had shown similar trends, traffic experts are once again urging caution.
To alleviate the situation, Anas is deploying more personnel, especially in places where roadworks are narrowing the lanes. Nevertheless, there may still be considerable delays on important routes in Italy. The major traffic routes in northern and southern Italy are particularly affected, as holidaymakers and weekend commuters are on the road at the same time.
Drivers should avoid peak traffic times and rather start in the early morning hours or later in the evening. This significantly reduces the risk of getting stuck in traffic jams. It is also advisable to check the vehicle thoroughly before a long journey, especially the tires, air conditioning and coolant. Regular breaks increase concentration and help to make the journey more relaxed.
It is also important to keep the emergency lanes clear and not to change lanes spontaneously, as this could further endanger the flow of traffic. Especially in the hot summer months, no animals or children should be left in parked cars. Anas also points out campaigns against distracted driving and to prevent fires. These topics are currently coming back into focus.
