The tennis world is looking forward to Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner qualified for his first final at the prestigious Grand Slam tournament in outstanding style on Friday. The South Tyrolean, currently number 1 in the world, defeated the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals in three sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-4). His biggest rival, Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, now awaits him in the final on Sunday at 5 pm.
Sinner dominates Djokovic
The match between Sinner and Djokovic was a clear-cut affair. The Serbian hardly found any means against the South Tyrolean's unleashed game and, apart from his serve, was hardly able to assert himself in the longer rallies. Sinner only allowed Djokovic one break point, which he capitalized on at the start of the third set. However, the Italian responded immediately with two re-breaks and ended the match in less than two hours. This means that Sinner has only dropped two sets in the entire tournament so far (in the round of 16 against Grigor Dimitrov), which underlines his outstanding form.
The big revenge against Alcaraz
Tennis fans can look forward to a real dream final in which the two top players in the world rankings meet. For Sinner, it is the perfect opportunity for revenge: it is just over a month since he suffered a bitter defeat in the final of the French Open against Alcaraz.
The record of their last head-to-head meetings favors Alcaraz, who has won the last three finals against Sinner (China Open 2024, Italian Open 2025, French Open 2025). However, the only meeting on the grass at Wimbledon is in the Italian's favor: Sinner prevailed in the fourth round in 2022. The upcoming final promises to be a thrilling spectacle between two of the best players of their generation.
