A surprising turnaround in the case of tennis star Jannik Sinner: the world number one has confirmed Umberto Ferrara as his fitness trainer again with immediate effect. Ferrara and physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi were dismissed in August last year in the wake of the Clostebol affair, which resulted in a three-month doping ban for Sinner.
Sinner's management team explained this decision as a "renewed commitment to continuity and performance at the highest level" in preparation for the upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.
Ferrara had already been part of Sinner's team since May 2022. He was dismissed after Naldi used a drug that led to a positive doping test for Sinner. The renewed collaboration follows the departure of Sinner's previous coaches Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio shortly before Wimbledon.
The decision underlines Sinner's desire to rely on proven strengths and to prepare optimally for the important hard court tournaments.
