From Monday evening, July 7, 9 p.m., until Tuesday, July 8, 6 p.m., considerable disruptions in rail traffic are to be expected throughout Italy: FS Group staff are on strike. In addition to Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, Trenord and Italo are also affected. The strike is triggered by the dissatisfaction of some grassroots unions over the continuation of unresolved wage issues.
During the strike, there is a risk of train cancellations, significant delays of up to two hours and partial cancellations, particularly on regional and long-distance services. In cities such as Rome and Naples, there have already been long queues and massive service restrictions. Numerous long-distance services were also canceled.
In order to relieve commuters, mandatory minimum services will continue to apply between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., especially for regional trains. Individual long-distance connections, such as Intercity and Frecce, are also guaranteed according to the official timetables. This information can be accessed digitally via the websites or apps of Trenitalia, Trenord, Italo and the relevant rail providers.
The railroad companies advise all travelers to consult up-to-date information systems before their journey. These include online information services, infomobility areas, hotlines, station staff and ticket counters as well as apps and social media account channels in order to recognize short-term cancellations in good time.
The strike will also affect freight transport and local service providers. In some cases, full disruptions were already expected in advance. The wage disputes in local passenger transport are part of an ongoing debate about wage, working and safety conditions.
