Who designed the Trieste Golf Club?

The course’s origins date back to 1954, when a 9-hole course was built on land that had been prepared by British and American troops after World War II. For decades, Trieste was thus one of the earliest golf destinations in northeastern Italy.

Architects Guido and Giacomo Cabrini (Studio +studi) were responsible for the expansion to 18 homogeneous holes. Their concept was distinctly ecological: the new holes were integrated into the existing karst landscape, with natural rock formations and vegetation serving as course hazards. This preserved the original character of the terrain while making the course more strategically challenging. In keeping with Giacomo Cabrini’s philosophy, the course calls for modern golf—a long drive, a solid second shot, and a keen eye for the hidden slopes on the greens.

For practice, you have access to a covered driving range with 10 tees, as well as separate areas for putting, pitching, and chipping. The course is located in Padriciano at Via Padriciano 80, about a 10-minute drive from the center of Trieste. You can easily reach the course by car via the A4 highway and the Karst exit; free parking is available at the clubhouse. The Trieste–Ronchi dei Legionari (FVG) Airport is about 35 kilometers away, and Ljubljana and Venice are also easily accessible.

The club is open year-round; it is closed on Tuesdays (except on holidays). Thanks to its elevation of 350 meters, it’s more pleasant here in midsummer than at the seaside—the ideal months for golf are May, June, September, and October.
