From Cervia to Parma: a ride through the soul of Italy
For the participants of the 1000 Miglia 2025, June 20 also began early: the historic vehicles left the starting point in Cervia on the Adriatic coast at 6 am. The day's destination was Parma, around 500 kilometers to the west, beyond the Apennine Mountains and close to the Tyrrhenian coast. The route was not only technically challenging, but also offered everything Italy has to offer in terms of scenery.
Ferraris, passes and tests: The morning
After the start, the "Tribute 1000 Miglia", the modern Ferrari parade, also made its way to Piazza Aurelio Saffi in Forlì, where the first stamp check of the day awaited. The route continued to Lardiano, where ten precise time trials were held. The intermediate result? No surprise: the Vesco-Salvinelli duo continued to dominate in an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS.
The stage then really picked up speed. The Foreste Casentinesi National Park not only offered a picturesque backdrop, but also challenging altitude meters. Crossing the Passo della Calla was a real challenge, including an average test. Afterwards, Stia had a premiere in store. The town was part of the 1000 Miglia for the first time and welcomed the participants with a stamp and time control.
Further checks followed in Pratovecchio before heading towards Empoli and San Miniato, where two more stamp checks were carried out. At around 14:00, the convoy reached Piazza Cordificio Billeri in Pontedera. After 240 intense kilometers, it was time for a well-deserved break.
From Pontedera to the Naval Academy and on to the west
In the afternoon, a highlight was on the program: the entry into the venerable Naval Academy of Livorno. Before that, however, the participants had to pass a time check on the Via Vittorio Veneto bridge and master the eighth average stage in Valle Benedetta. Once they arrived in Livorno, the drivers were welcomed by Admiral Emilio Credendino himself. He got behind the wheel of a 1947 Fiat 1100 Monviso himself to compete for the prestigious "Trofeo Marina Militare": a special time trial within the military academy decided the winner.
Viareggio, Versilia, Passo della Cisa: the route of legends
The ride took the participants further along the Versilia coast. In Viareggio, five more time trials awaited them on the Viale dei Tigli. Then it was off to the time control near the beach before the historic vehicles rolled through the old towns of Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi. Where the dolce vita normally reigns, the past thundered through the streets on four wheels today.
But the real finale followed in the evening: the Passo della Cisa demanded everything from man and machine. Ten more time trials and the last average stage of the 1000 Miglia had to be completed on the serpentines of this legendary mountain pass - a tribute to the motorsport heroes of days gone by.
Final in Parma - and the battle for overall victory.
Late in the evening, the convoy finally drove through the atmospherically lit streets of Parma. The finish on the Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi was an emotional moment - for riders, spectators and organizers alike. The time control marked the end of this mammoth stage.
