Rome – On Monday morning, the Italian government successfully issued a new government bond BTP Italia launched. Investor demand was exceptionally high from the very start: within the first hour of trading, the one-billion-euro mark in capital raised had already been surpassed. These bonds, designed specifically for retail investors, are considered an important indicator of public confidence in the country’s finances.
Strong interest from retail investors at the outset
The impressive total of one billion euros was generated by a total of 27,648 individual contracts concluded within the first 60 minutes of the placement period. This high number of transactions underscores that interest is broad-based and driven primarily by numerous retail investors seeking a safe investment vehicle for their savings.
The subscription period runs until the end of the week
Investors have until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, to subscribe to the new bond. However, the Italian Ministry of Finance reserves the right to close the subscription period early should demand remain this strong. Such an early closure is standard practice for successful issuances and would be another positive signal for the Italian financial market.
