PALERMO - The civil courage of a police couple prevented the theft of a motorcycle in Palermo last Friday. A 16-year-old youth was arrested, while his 25-year-old accomplice was able to flee after a scuffle. However, he was identified and charged with attempted theft and resisting arrest.
Civil courage: police couple intervenes
The incident took place late on Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a supermarket in Via Lanza di Scalea. A Carabinieri maresciallo and a state police inspector, who had done their weekly shopping privately and off duty, noticed two suspicious young men leaving the store. The two offenders, who had come to the scene on an e-bike, broke the steering wheel lock of a parked motorcycle and tried to push it away. The two officers intervened immediately and caught the thieves. While their identities were being established, the 25-year-old suddenly pushed the carabiniere to the ground and fled with the e-bike, leaving his underage accomplice behind. The 16-year-old was then arrested and taken to the "Malaspina" juvenile detention center. The damaged motorcycle was immediately returned to its rightful owner.
