On the evening of May 28, 2025, there was a fatal attack in an apartment at Via Moncalieri 47 in Grugliasco, a suburb of Turin. Fernanda Di Nuzzo, a 61-year-old nursery school teacher, was seriously injured by her husband Pasquale Piersanti with several stab wounds to the stomach. Their 24-year-old daughter, who has cognitive impairments, witnessed the attack and alerted the neighbors. Di Nuzzo tried to escape via the stairwell and called for help before she lost consciousness.

The injured woman was admitted to Molinette Hospital in Turin in a critical condition. Despite emergency surgery to remove her spleen, she succumbed to her serious injuries on the morning of May 29. She was in a state of hemorrhagic shock and suffered a cardiac arrest.

After the crime, the 61-year-old husband barricaded himself in the apartment they shared and injured himself with the murder knife. The carabinieri found him in a confused state and arrested him. He will now be charged with murder.

Neighbors and investigators report that there have been no previous incidents of domestic violence and no police reports. The investigation is being conducted by the public prosecutor's office under the direction of Paolo Scafi.

This incident is one in a series of femicides in Italy. This year alone, more than 15 women have already been killed by their partners or ex-partners. The case of Fernanda Di Nuzzo once again highlights the urgency of stepping up measures against domestic violence and for the protection of women.
